Choosing a new system involves more than replacing the existing equipment with the same type. As part of our heating services, NEON evaluates your home’s size, insulation, layout, ductwork, available utilities, and comfort needs to determine whether a gas furnace, electric furnace, or heat pump is the right fit. We also consider changes such as remodels or additions that may affect what your home needs today.
For existing homes with a gas connection, a gas furnace can be a practical option. San Francisco’s all-electric rules may apply to new construction and certain major renovations.
Electric resistance systems, including electric furnaces, can suit homes without gas service or projects where installing gas infrastructure is not practical.
A heat pump uses electricity to transfer warmth from outdoor air indoors and can both warm and cool your home.
Equipment that is too small or too large can cause uneven temperatures, frequent cycling, and higher energy costs. The old unit’s BTU rating is only one part of the picture. It may not have been the right size for your home in the first place.
When providing heating services in San Francisco, CA, NEON starts with a heating-load assessment. This evaluation considers square footage, insulation, windows, ceiling height, layout, ductwork, air leakage, and local climate conditions to determine equipment that fits the home’s actual requirements.

Our experience with Freon HVAC has been exceptional for a full panel upgrade to 200 amps and installation of a new Mitsubishi mini-split system in an old house. We took quotes from 4 different top rated hvac providers in the San Jose area, before deciding to go with Freon. I appreciated the honesty and detailed analysis of our needs by Slava when he first showed up to do an estimate. He asked a ton of questions, checked the house for existing setup, wiring, possibilities, and discussed multiple possibilities including ducted, gas, hybrid, and heat pump only. Once we decided to go with a specific type of configuration, he gave us multiple options. Their pricing was competitive and while it took forever for PGE to get to the wiring/transformer upgrade, Freon's team worked with them patiently to meet our needs. Special thanks to Jessica for regular follow ups with PGE and us. Once PGE scheduled the wiring upgrade (after 3 months), Freon's team was prompt and did a very clean install including all internal wiring and drainage work. They ensured city inspection was scheduled promptly and addressed all city concerns for a quick approval. I have not dealt with a more professional and competent crew in this area in a very long time. Would love to do business with them again.![]()

I usually doubt perfect 5-star ratings, but Freon completely earned theirs. My AC/heater combo unit broke, and every other company told me I needed a total replacement, quoting me between $9k and $12k. Freon came out to inspect it, and later that day, they gave me a quote for just $3,000 to repair it. I signed the contract that night, and they were back to do the work just 5 days later on June 19th. The tech replaced the compressor to get it running, but didn't stop there. He thoroughly tested the system, caught a power issue, and replaced the compressor relay and expansion valve to ensure the unit wouldn't break down again. Outstanding service. I'm finally set for the summer and winter. They deserve every single star!![]()

NEON provides residential heating services in San Francisco and nearby Bay Area communities, including heating repair, replacement, installation, and maintenance:

Not sure what is wrong with your unit? NEON can inspect it and explain your options. Whether you need residential heating repair, replacement, a new installation, or a system check, we look at your equipment and your home before recommending the next step. As a heating company in San Francisco, we explain the work clearly before the project begins.
The answer depends on the system’s age, condition, repair history, and the nature of the problem. A single component issue may be repairable, while older equipment with recurring breakdowns or major concerns may be a better candidate for replacement. NEON’s home heating services include a professional assessment to identify the issue and compare repair and replacement options for your unit.
Plan a professional checkup for your home once a year, ideally before colder weather arrives. It gives a technician a chance to spot dirty filters, blocked airflow, worn parts, and other small problems early. Older equipment may need more attention.
Uneven heating has many possible causes. Ductwork problems, blocked or undersized vents, poor airflow, improper sizing, insulation gaps, thermostat placement, and the home’s layout can all contribute. Because similar symptoms may stem from different factors, a professional assessment is the most reliable way to identify the cause and recommend the right correction.
The right equipment depends on your home’s size, insulation, ductwork, available gas service, electrical capacity, and comfort needs. Gas and electric furnaces and heat pumps operate differently and may suit different properties. As a heating contractor in San Francisco, NEON evaluates these factors before recommending equipment.
System sizing is based on the home’s heating load rather than simply matching the capacity of the current equipment. A technician considers square footage, insulation, windows, ceiling height, layout, airflow, and ductwork to determine an appropriate capacity for the property.
Residential heating service costs in San Francisco depend on the type and condition of the system, as well as the scope of work. As a general guide, routine maintenance may cost about $90–$250, while furnace repairs in San Francisco typically range from $178 to $866, with an average of about $504. A furnace replacement may range from approximately $3,000 to $7,200, while more complex projects can cost more when they involve ductwork, electrical upgrades, gas-line modifications, permits, or a heat pump conversion. After evaluating everything, NEON can provide a clear quote for the work required.
For residential HVAC heating projects, installation time depends on the equipment being installed and the condition of the home. Replacing an existing system generally involves a different scope than installing heating for an addition or renovation. Ductwork, electrical upgrades, gas-line work, permits, and inspection scheduling can also affect the timeline. NEON can explain the expected project schedule after assessing the property.
