Ducted Heat Pumps
Ducted heat pumps use existing or new ductwork to heat and cool your home. If you already have ducts, we’ll inspect their condition, size, and airflow before recommending a system.
NEON provides heat pump replacement in San Francisco for homeowners with aging, unreliable, or failed systems. We review your current equipment, explain your options, and help you choose a replacement that fits your home and budget.
A heat pump does not always need to be replaced. But it may be time to consider a new system if you notice:
If you’re considering a residential heat pump replacement after a remodel, addition, or change in how you use your home, you may need a different system than before. We’ll assess your current unit and explain whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Ducted heat pumps use existing or new ductwork to heat and cool your home. If you already have ducts, we’ll inspect their condition, size, and airflow before recommending a system.
Ductless heat pumps use an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor units. They are a practical option for homes without ductwork or for rooms that need separate temperature control.
Variable-speed heat pumps can adjust their output as your home’s heating or cooling needs change. When you work with NEON, a San Francisco heat pump installer, we’ll explain the available efficiency options and help you choose a system that fits your comfort goals and budget.
Not every system needs heat pump replacement in San Francisco. Some units only need a simple repair. We’ll help you decide whether repair or replacement makes more sense for your system.

Our experience with Freon HVAC has been exceptional for a full panel upgrade to 200 amps and installation of a new Mitsubishi mini-split system in an old house. We took quotes from 4 different top rated hvac providers in the San Jose area, before deciding to go with Freon. I appreciated the honesty and detailed analysis of our needs by Slava when he first showed up to do an estimate. He asked a ton of questions, checked the house for existing setup, wiring, possibilities, and discussed multiple possibilities including ducted, gas, hybrid, and heat pump only. Once we decided to go with a specific type of configuration, he gave us multiple options. Their pricing was competitive and while it took forever for PGE to get to the wiring/transformer upgrade, Freon's team worked with them patiently to meet our needs. Special thanks to Jessica for regular follow ups with PGE and us. Once PGE scheduled the wiring upgrade (after 3 months), Freon's team was prompt and did a very clean install including all internal wiring and drainage work. They ensured city inspection was scheduled promptly and addressed all city concerns for a quick approval. I have not dealt with a more professional and competent crew in this area in a very long time. Would love to do business with them again.![]()

I usually doubt perfect 5-star ratings, but Freon completely earned theirs. My AC/heater combo unit broke, and every other company told me I needed a total replacement, quoting me between $9k and $12k. Freon came out to inspect it, and later that day, they gave me a quote for just $3,000 to repair it. I signed the contract that night, and they were back to do the work just 5 days later on June 19th. The tech replaced the compressor to get it running, but didn't stop there. He thoroughly tested the system, caught a power issue, and replaced the compressor relay and expansion valve to ensure the unit wouldn't break down again. Outstanding service. I'm finally set for the summer and winter. They deserve every single star!![]()

Equipment is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Labor coverage is outlined in your proposal. Homeowners who enroll in an eligible maintenance agreement may qualify for installation warranty coverage of up to 12 years on new equipment; terms depend on the equipment and agreement.

Frequent repairs, rising repair costs, poor heating or cooling, and declining reliability can all be signs that replacement is worth considering. If your system has failed and you need emergency heat pump replacement, we’ll assess the situation and explain your options.
When deciding whether to repair or replace a heat pump, we look at its age, condition, and the repair needed. A newer system with an isolated problem may be worth repairing. Replacement may make more sense if the system has repeated issues or major components are failing.
Heat pump replacement costs start at $4,500. Final cost depends on the system type and size, installation complexity, ductwork, electrical needs, equipment placement, and applicable permit requirements. We’ll provide a clear written estimate after assessing your home.
Often, yes. We inspect the ducts for proper size, leaks, insulation, and overall condition before recommending reuse, repair, modification, or replacement.
Not always. We review your home’s electrical load and available panel capacity before making a recommendation. If the existing system cannot safely support the new system, NEON can complete the required electrical work under our C-10 license; it is quoted separately after the assessment.
A single-zone ductless replacement typically takes one day. Ducted replacements with usable existing ductwork usually take 1–2 days, while multi-zone and more complex projects may take longer.
When selecting a replacement heat pump for your home, the right size depends on more than square footage. We use a Manual J load calculation that considers your home’s layout, insulation, windows, ductwork, air leakage, and local conditions.
